research description

Additive Manufacturing is the fabrication method with the most disruptive potential to revolutionize the way we conceive and produce the built environment. Through 3D Printing in particular, designers are challenged to explore novel architecture that benefits from the capacity to shape forms with unreachable levels of complexity and strategic material organization. In this research line, CREATE focus on exploring ideas and producing design artifacts as an answer to some fundamental driving questions: what kind of tectonic configurations can be enabled by 3D printing? How do we realize high-performance architecture with it? How can we build bespoke architecture in a sustainable way? Adopting a research through design approach, catalyzed through computational techniques, we are looking into the realization of an atlas of 3D printed tectonic prototypes: experimental architectural configurations where material/ form/ performance are tackled coherently and sublimate to achieve an autonomous aesthetic expression.
