ReconWood Proto 01
ABOUT THE PROJECT
ReconWood Proto 01 demonstrates a circular approach to digital timber architecture through real-time cyber-physical collaborative workflows. The project integrates a performance-driven design process, robotic fabrication and human-robot assembly and disassembly of reconfigurable timber frame structures which can evolve in time. The material “bits” follow a load-responsive and automation-driven material organisation through an adaptive construction process.
Advancements in Extended Reality (XR) are opening up novel features of architectural design and construction, as they provide an interactive and data-rich interface, where real-time communication among the design model, the on-site operators, and the construction instructions are enabled. In ReconWood Proto 01, XR is used to for intuitive real-time assembly of complex layered structures.
